When Covenant Health launched the Atlas program in 2021, it performed a comprehensive retrospective analysis of its patient population. This analysis included claims and visit-level data. The results of this analysis also included reimbursement for philanthropic medical financial aid. Initially, the Atlas focused on the patient experience, but later releases will include additional domains. This process is detailed in the “Overview of Measures” section and in the Methodological Details.

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)

A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is a managed care health insurance plan that enables members to visit only approved doctors and facilities. Members pay a predetermined copayment each time they visit a participating provider. The PPO covers the rest. Whether you’re seeing a doctor for routine health care or more complex medical needs, a PPO is a good choice.

There are two types of Medicare Advantage plans from HealthPartners. The Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan is the more affordable option, and it is often bundled with a prescription drug plan. HealthPartners’ Medicare Advantage plans differ by state and county. Some areas are excluded from PPO coverage, while others are offered in all areas. The cost of these plans depends on your location.

Allies

The Aimed Alliance sent a letter of support to HealthPartners on November 13, 2018. The nonprofit health insurance organization is one of the largest consumer-governed health care organizations in the country, serving more than one million members through its medical and dental plans. It is one of the top commercial health plans in Minnesota, and is ranked 19th in the nation for health insurance plan quality. Patients were concerned that HealthPartners would end coverage for medications in the middle of the plan year. The letter also noted that the change will take effect on April 1, 2020.

The collaboration between Allina Health and HealthPartners is an example of this type of relationship. It sets up financial incentives to lower costs and improve health outcomes. Both organizations’ cost-cutting efforts are aimed at improving patient care and reducing health care costs. The partnership includes a multi-year collaboration between Allina Health and HealthPartners, which coordinates care among nine clinics and two Mercy Hospital campuses. The partnership between the two organizations is proving successful.
