The Luxury Collection

Many luxury hotels are part of the Luxury Collection. Many are smaller establishments located in converted palaces or other culturally significant buildings. Others are restored historic hotels. The luxury collection has a long history, starting in 1994 with ITT Sheraton. Read on to find out more about each hotel. Here are some of the most notable:

ITT Sheraton Luxury Collection was founded in 1994

When ITT Sheraton founded its Luxury Collection, it was an established company with hands in scores of different industries. In the 1970s, it was a conglomerate that included Continental Baking and Avis car rental firms, but later began to lose focus and sell off its subsidiaries. By the mid-1990s, it owned a sports television network and the New York Knicks basketball team. The company also had hotels across Europe, but was planning a massive new construction and renovation campaign.

The company has managed and owned 450 hotels in 65 countries, serving more than 22 million people annually. ITT shifted management responsibilities from Henderson to Feninger, who had served as the company’s product manager for hotels. Rather than one corporate executive overseeing all of the properties, there are now regional managers who oversee six or seven other Sheraton properties. The company also has a franchise division and a business division for its hotels abroad.
